Record-Breaking Investment into Direct Air Capture CO2 Removal

(startupticker.ch, September 02, 2020)

Founded by engineers Christoph Gebald and Jan Wurzbacher, Climeworks is one of the global leaders in carbon dioxide removal and has the mission to inspire 1 billion people to remove carbon dioxide from the air. To achieve this, the company developed and patented a direct air capture technology that removes carbon dioxide directly from the air, all while using clean, renewable energy. Backed by a group of committed investors, Climeworks recently announced that as of August 2020, its funding round had been completed with a total equity investment amount of CHF 100M (USD 110M) – the largest ever investment into direct air capture. According to Gebald, this investment will help Climeworks rapidly implement the next steps of their scale-up roadmap and further improve their technology.
