Nestlé first entered the Korean market in 1979 through a joint venture and started introducing brands including Nescafé Taster’s Choice® and Nesquik. Nestlé’s chocolates and coffee were smuggled out of American military bases and sold on the black market after the Korean War before Nestlé’s official entry into the market.
The former legal entity of Nestlé in the market, Hankook (Korea) Nestlé, was merged into Lotte-Nestlé Korea, a joint venture created between Nestlé S.A. and Lotte Group in 2014. Nestlé Korea was established in the same year as a separate legal entity.
