Company Profile

Pors & Rao are an art duo, making objects and installations that often imbibe life-like physical animation and responsive behaviours. Their works are often conceived as a kind of being, expressing basic behavior traits such as shyness, fatigue and dependency; highlighting involuntary aspects of human behavior and relationships. Their work is exhibited around the world. Their need for robotic puppetry as a medium, led them to own an unchartered technical research path
in collaboration with various Swiss institutions since 2012, including Wyss Zurich and ETH which culminated in a pilot lab of their own in 2020. Here they took forward project PATHOS, a system for crafting physical movement and response for non engineers. In 2022, they exited ETH as a Spinoff, with the aim of reuniting the development of artworks and tools under the same roof at the studio, alongside fabrication and workshop facilities.

Job Description

The job entails making scale or life size models of artworks and site specific installation that would  require the mock up of architectural elements (such as walls and corners) and artworks/ moving  sculptures. The models should have the ability to be animated, through mechanical puppetry- by  pulling strings or levels or rotating discs, etc. These models will have to be designed in a CAD software (Autodesk Fusion), fabricated via rapid prototyping techniques/ workshop facilities and  assembled and installed in the artists' studio. Several reiterations may be required. The scale of the  model may be from the size of a matchbox to the size of a small room.
