Phantom Hands, established in Bangalore in 2014, is a design and craft driven contemporary furniture
maker. We collaborate with acclaimed international furniture and textile designers to create
contemporary designs that celebrate the craft traditions of India. With distribution in over 30 countries,
we are emerging as one of the few global design brands from India.
Our manufacturing facilities and offices are based in Abbigere Industrial area in Bangalore. We are a
team of over 100 people, including 70 skilled artisans in carpentry, upholstery tailoring, cane weaving,
etc., and a work culture that places a high priority on ethics, integrity and excellence.

Job Description

The job entails supporting our R&D team in conceptualizing the redesign of the packaging system for
all our products, in an efficient and sustainable way. This includes the physical design of the cartons,
smart collapsible. modular cardboard supporting structures to fill up entry internal volumes, innovative
soft packaging using local materials and handcrafted techniques. The design also has to be
sensitive to different kinds of materials and forms that must be packaged together, keeping volumetric
weight low, building in robustness required for transcontinental travel, low environmental impact, and
efficient disposal and recycling after unpacking.

Required Skills

a. Thinking conceptually and experimenting with new forms
and structures.
b. Grasping the context of packing logistics as well as that of
Phantom Hands, the local materials and skills available.
c. Rapid prototyping by hand in paper, cardboard using
software and laser cutting machines.
d. Thinking in modularity and in a systemic manner.
