Mellia is a design studio based in Nishinomiya, next to Osaka, Japan, founded by interior designer Sébastien Ricci. The company operates at the intersection of interior architecture, real estate development and media.

Mellia works as a strategic partner of Iconia in Japan, supporting international brands and companies in developing projects around the world.

Sébastien Ricci is an interior and lighting designer with expertise in the Swiss watch industry, having worked with several prestigious brands.

The studio is also developing real estate and media initiatives that explore contemporary living in Japan, with a focus on design, hospitality and cultural storytelling.

Job Description

  • The intern designer will support the studio in the development of design projects across interior design, product design and visual concepts. The role includes assisting with research, concept development, preparation of mood boards, visual presentations and basic drawings.
  • The intern will contribute to various stages of the design process, including material research, furniture and display design, and support for retail, hospitality or residential projects. Tasks may also include 3D modeling, layout preparation and assistance with design documentation.
  • Working in an international environment, the intern will collaborate with Sébastien Ricci and the Iconia team in Switzerland, Italy, China and Singapore, gaining exposure to real projects, design processes and coordination with partners and suppliers.
  • The intern may also assist with video production (photo and video)  related to podcast content and project documentation.

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of industrial design
  • Interest in interior design and the design of loose furniture, packaging and displays
  • Interest in retail, hospitality or residential environments
  • Basic CAD or 3D modeling skills (SketchUp, AutoCAD, Archicad or similar)
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign)
  • Basic knowledge of Da Vinci Resolve or Adobe premier is a plus.
  • Ability to prepare visual presentations, layouts and mood boards
  • Interest in materials, furniture and lighting design
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work in an international environment
  • English required (Japanese and Italian are a plus)
