Mellia is a design studio based in Nishinomiya, next to Osaka, Japan, founded by interior designer Sébastien Ricci. The company operates at the intersection of interior architecture, real estate development and media.

Mellia works as a strategic partner of Iconia in Japan, supporting international brands and companies in developing projects around the world.

Sébastien Ricci is an interior and lighting designer with expertise in the Swiss watch industry, having worked with several prestigious brands.

The studio is also developing real estate and media initiatives that explore contemporary living in Japan, with a focus on design, hospitality and cultural storytelling.

Job Description

  • The interior design intern will support the studio in the development of interior architecture and design projects. The role includes assisting with research, concept development, preparation of mood boards, visual presentations and basic drawings.
  • The intern will contribute to various stages of the design process, including material research, furniture and lighting selection, and support for retail, hospitality and residential projects. Tasks may also include 3D modeling, layout preparation and assistance with design documentation.
  • Working in an international environment, the intern will collaborate with Sébastien Ricci and the Iconia team in Switzerland, Italy, China and Singapore, gaining exposure to real projects, design processes and coordination with partners, suppliers and contractors.
  • The intern may also assist with visual content (photo and video) and documentation related to design projects and studio activities.

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of interior architecture and spatial design
  • Interest in retail, hospitality or residential design
  • Interest in industrial and product design
  • Basic CAD or 3D modeling skills (SketchUp, AutoCAD, Archicad or similar)
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign)
  • Basic knowledge of Da Vinci Resolve or Adobe premier is a plus.
  • Ability to prepare visual presentations and mood boards
  • Interest in materials, furniture and lighting design
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work in an international environment
  • English required (Japanese and Italian are a plus)
