Abstract

Gold Medal in European Rowing Championships

(University of Fribourg, June 10, 2013)

Lucas Tramèr, a third-year student of medicine at the University of Fribourg, won the gold medal in the lightweight men’s pair event at the European Rowing Championships. It proves the feasibility of combining elite sport and studies. Tramèr, a member of the Vésenaz Rowing Club, achieved this feat with his teammate Simon Niepmann from the Seeclub Zurich. It was the pair’s second European medal, having won the bronze medal in the men’s four event in 2010. Last year the four Swiss ranked fifth in the lightweight men’s four event at the Olympic Games in London. Tramèr has benefited from a program designed to support elite sportsmen and sportswomen by enabling them to organize their studies, and particularly exams, around competitions.
